Minutes for October 17 2002 OTA Meeting

Hey there everyone! Here's the lowdown on what happened at the meeting tonight:

  1. The next meeting will in Energy Center Room M130 (map) on November 7. Free pizza! Free movie! You bring non-alcoholic drink. Note the one-time room change!

  2. How-d there all. Your feeling-no-so-esteemed president here with general awareness anouncements for the betterment of everyone's lives. I'm going to try to leave out dead goats, and just assume that every somewhat grr-ish announcement is to be followed up with a plethora of dead goats. That way, I'll save a lot of typing.
  3. General Awareness Announcement for OU students: Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm in Meachum Auditorium in the OMU there will be a general "voice your opinion" meeting. The meeting will address general issues, but will mainly talk about parking and athletics at OU. If you want to go, e-mail mary.j.millben-1@ou.edu immediately.
  4. OK...back to club news. PAY YOUR DUES ALREADY! If you have no intention of doing so, e-mail me. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record and I really hate it and I'm sure you do too. (Insert many, many dead goats here.) Attendance at meetings is by no means manditory, but please try to show up! I take time out of my schedule for this club, and we can't make it if you don't do the same. I'm not asking a long time! We're in and out in an hour or less. Please???
  5. If you ordered a t-shirt and haven't (a) paid for it or (b) picked it up from me, you're dead meat. If you haven't paid for it yet and still want one, I MUST receive an e-mail from you by Monday. If I don't, I will assume that you no longer are interested in the club and will not only resell your shirt, but I will also remove you from the mailing list. This is serious. The club invested money, and now it's time for you to pay the club back. The club gets angry when left unpaid. (Let the goats do the talking.)
  6. T-shirts are officially on sale for $12. If you want another one or know someone who wants one, see me. We need $$ first, then we'll make your shirt.
  7. **************************THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**************************   On Halloween (that's Oct. 31) we will be doing Neighborhood Watch. If you wish to participate, I need your name, your call sign, your cell phone number (if you have one), your vehicle make, model and license plate number, and where you plan to "watch" so I can send a list to the Norman Police Dept. Earl is going to run net control, and we need a lot of people so that the NPD asks us to do other stuff for them as well. I need all your information in an e-mail by Tuesday. If you don't get it to me by Tuesday, you'd better call me or I'll be irate....finish this one on your own.
  8. We donated $20 to the YMCA for candy money. $14 of that came from club members. $6 of that came from the club account. A few people didn't want to spend the money, but the majority thought it was a good cause (and not a huge amount).
  9. ********************** THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT TOO!!!!!!!!!**************************   October 26 at 10 am we are cleaning out the ham shack. E-mail me (a) if you are NOT planning to attend or (b) if you ARE planning to attend. The more people we get, the faster it goes.
  10. The Antenna Day committee (Marilyn, Mel, Jud, Chris and Earl) need to have a meeting. Please e-mail me with your best day/time that you can have a meeting. This can be done on the air or in person, I don't care, but it needs to happen.
  11. Enid Hamfest is November 2. It's $2. Need more info? e-mail enidhamfest@yahoo.com. NOT ME!
  12. Earl attended the OCAPA meeting on Tuesday night. His report: New ARES/Salvation Army Radio Station The Oklahoma City Autopatch Association (OCAPA), Amateur Radio Emergency Services(ARES), and the Salvation Army have teamed up to build an absolutely outstanding Amateur Radio command post. It is quite impressive and is as professional of an installation as I have seen in my 12 some-odd years as a ham. OCAPA will announce an open-house, soon. When they let us know, we'll let you know when and where you can go to visit the station. OCAPA Christmas Dinner: If I got it right, I think it is on 17 Dec at a Western Sizzlin'. Contact OCAPA on the 146.82 repeater for more info.
  13. ARES: Amateur Radio Emergency Services. ARES is very active in the state of Oklahoma. If you want to learn about an exciting, challenging, and rewarding part of our hobby, just check into the ARES net on Thursdays at 7:30 PM on the 146.82 repeater. It may seem like just a net, but in the case of a tornado, your assistance will be really needed.
  14. Earl is willing to transport interested people to local ham functions. E-mail him for more info- santa@earlclaus.com.
  15. "Get your General" study sessions....e-mail me. [Ed.'s note: Tech Plus's are working DX all over the world (like the tiny volcanic island of St. Helena, where Napolean was last exiled!) on 10 meters. You could, too!]
  16. I am e-mailing clubs to let them all look at the t-shirt and then if there is interest, I will send people out to show them off and sell them. More on this later.
  17. Ideas for use of $$? Let me know.
  18. Dayton Hamfest: May 16-18. Mark it down. If you wanna go for sure, (or even not for sure) I must know BEFORE NEXT THURSDAY!!!!!! E-mail me.

That's all for now...Any comments, corrections or suggestions? E-mail me! mwoodruff@ou.edu
