Meeting Minutes
19:00 Tuesday, April 7, 1997
Energy Center 723
- Call to Order
- Reading of Last Month's Minutes
- Technical Presentation
Keith Brewster N0IAW talked about the new Specific Area Message Encoding
for NOAA weather radio. The new receivers can be programmed to alert you
to only the messages for counties you are in. This is a great improvement
over the previous radios which would set off alerts for any event anywhere
in the broadcast radius of the station. The new radios are currently sold
at radio shack for $80, although this price should drop soon.
- Old Business
- Club room
Other people's stuff is almost completely cleared out of our CEC sub-basement
room. We may be able to get more keys for the rest of the officers.
- QSL cards
The committee is still working on it. They'll go to press real-soon-now.

- Field Day
Field Day will be June 27th this year. We have decided to hold it on top
of the Energy Center like we did in 1996. Some reasons include:
- Few students in June means a poor opportunity for public exposure.
We're better off holding a special event station during a fall
football game.
- The EC site is much easier to secure.
- Propagation!
Participants will be encouraged to visit with the SCARS club throughout
the event. We'll probably rent a small generator as well as our copious
battery supply. Contact Jared KB5PSP for more information.
- ELECTIONS
Since none of the offices were contested, the nominees were approved by
consent.
President: Jared Bostic KB5PSP
Vice-President: Kate King KD5BFI
Treasurer: Brian McDonald KD5BFH
Secretary: Jeff Taylor KD5CFO
- Annoucement:
Skywarn is active! Tune in to 147.060 +/- during severe weather.
