Meeting Minutes
13:30 Saturday, November 2, 1996
Energy Center 723
Old Business
- The Red Cross Intro to Disasters class was held prior to the
last meeting. It will be offered at the next SCARS meeting if there
is sufficient interest.
- Red Cross Shelter Excercise was fun and informative. The EmTrac was
very cool.
- The Explore the World amateur radio demo was a big hit. We made several
HF contacts while showing off to the estimated 800 attendees. Next year
we should do this as a Special Event Station with custom QSL cards.
Possibly we should coordinate with Cub/Boy Scouts.
- We are looking for new avenues to get a ham shack. The biggest problem
is finding someone in a position of authority willing to listen to us.
Several more names and officies were proposed.
New Business
- Mark (N5HZR) and Jud (KC5RI) are working to firm up the Spring Technician
License class. It will be eight weeks long. Anyone who wants to
volunteer to teach a session or conduct a demo should contact Mark or
Jud.
- By process of elimination, Tuesday evening has been chosen as the new
meeting time. Starting with December, the club will meet at 7:00pm
on the First Tuesday of each month.
- The NWS is ready to start building up a spotter net for Cleveland and
McClain counties. For now we just need someone willing to bring up a
net during severe weather. Peter Laws (N5UWY) volunteered to be the
net controller. Now we just need to work out what repeater to use.
- JP Bostic (KB5PSP) has drafted some QSL cards for the club. They
look good.
- The paperwork to get W5OU for the club callsign is underway.
- The
Collegiate Championship Sweepstakes (phone) is the weekend of
the 16th. Most people present at the meeting have conflicts.
Other members interested in participating should contact the club.
