Meeting Minutes
19:00 Tuesday, August 5, 1997
Energy Center 723
- John KC5VEI called the meeting to order at 19:10
- Reading of Minutes
We have no minutes from the last meeting because the secretary was
getting married and no one else remembers what happened.
- Field Day
Pictures were passed around and the results discussed. We had 451
QSOs in 44 states. See the
Field Day 97 web page for
more information.
- September VHF QSO Party
Will take place on the 13th and 14th of September. Last year we placed
4th in the region and learned what that an "Angry Bee" sound during a
thunderstorm is bad.
- Howdy Week
We got a lot of good exposure last year. It would be good if we could
use our new pushup polls to set up working HF this year. More information
on timming and setup options will be gathered.
- Club Room
We are stalled on getting our old CEC room back. Avenues are being explored
to get a closet on EC 15 or maybe space in the EC 15 machine room. The
CEC penthouse is also a possibility. It is agreed that we should grab
whatever we can.
- Kit Building
We should have a session where folks can get together and work on projects.
This would be very good for folks with little experience in electronic
construction. There are lots of kits that we could build:
- W1AW Receiver $20-$30
- Handi-Finder
- 20 m Radio
- 6 m Beacon
- Custom Smart Chargers for NiCd HTs $10-$20
- 2 m brick amp for HTs
We should definitely build the beacon as there is none in this area and
it would be good exposure for the club. Most people at the meeting wanted
to build at least one of these kits. It would be best, but not necessary,
if everyone were working on the same thing at the same time to help out
the new folks. Exact plans will be discussed in the mailing list.
- Technical Presentations
We should get EE and METR profs to come in and give talks.
We could also have talks on Fox Hunting, Search and Rescue, Packet,
Feedline Soldering, etc. But we need a good one for the September meeting.
- Field Day expenses were partially resolved.
- JP KB5PSP offered congratulations to Seth KC5OPQ and Cindy KC5RRR
on their marriage.
- Mark spoke of Jack Bickham KU5B, a long time Norman ham who
recently passed away.A
- There will be a meeting to help clean up the Red Cross ham shack
on August 15th, contact Don Byrer KJ5KB for details.
- The Red Cross will be holding another shelter excercise soon and still
needs communications volunteers. Contact Don Byrer KJ5KB if you can help.
- Oklahoma OneNet has a 400 foot tower in Tulsa and links from OKC to
there. Anybody wanna set up a repeater link? Mark and others are
looking into it.
- The meeting adjourned at 20:22
