NOTE that this meeting was held one week after the usual
date to accommodate students taking final exams.
- Dallas Ham Comm (June 6, 7, and 8)
We will carpool down on Saturday, June 7th which should be the most
active and interesting day. We can get UOSA reimbursement for gas and
group registration. Members who wish to attend should pay the club $9
in advance and will then be reimbursed after attending the event. Contact
John KC5VEI if you plan to go.
- 2m OUARC net
We will have a weekly simplex radio net to help coordinate club activities
and encourage greater participation by new Hams. The net will be Tuesday
nights at 7:00pm on 147.470, except for meeting nights. We'll include a
simple 2m antenna in the antenna building party to help new Hams get on
the air.
- Antenna Building
The long awaited antenna building party will be May 31st at Don Byrer
KJ5KB's house. Bring your own burgers, he'll supply the grill. Time
and location will be posted shortly. We'll work on these projects:
- 2m twin lead J-poles (perfect for the simplex net!)
The club will buy the twin lead wire. Participants should bring:
- Length of RG-58 coaxial cable sufficient to get from your radio to
wherever you plan to mount your antenna.
- Connector to attach the cable to your model radio.
- 2m Ground plane
- 3/32" un-fluxxed Brazing rod -- five (5) lengths of 20+"
Available at Ace Hardware on Main St., or other hardware stores.
- More details will be posted later.
- 10 - 40m multi band dipole for the club (Field Day Special!).
- Test assembly of the PVC antenna mast.
- Field Day (June 28th and 29th)
- We are confirmed at the duck pond. We need a survey party to go
and find the best location. We must turn in a map showing where we
will set up one week in advance so underground cables can be marked.
- We need caution tape to mark antennas
- We need some PL259 to N-Female connectors.
- An army surplus store is selling 12'x 12'x 8' canopies for $21.99.
We'll buy two for field day. UOSA will reimburse.
- More planning will be done on the simplex net.
- June VHF QSO Party
Second weekend in June. We will try to get the EC roof.
- Ham Shack
The grad student occupying the room is staying on. John will appeal to
her sense of charity in asking her to please move.
- New meeting format
John would like to have a 15 minute techincal lecture at each meeting,
along with a reading of the previous meeting's minutes.
- Announcements:
- Don Byrer KJ5KB has 2 gallons of almost new dummy load oil. It will
be available at the antenna party for anyone who wants it.
