Meeting Minutes
13:30 Saturday, March 2, 1996
Energy Center 723
- Financial Report
- We have an EID from the IRS.
- We have a free checking account at Security National Bank.
- The bursar's account has been transferred to Dr. Ahern.
- We are looking into the possibility that equipment donations may
be tax deductible.
- Ham Shack
- Dr. Fagan is still working on getting CEC 4th floor. The cables
are already in place, but it may be a while before we can move in.
- Alternatives are unlikely to be so close to a roof.
- Telecommunications now requires that they handle all new wiring.
- Club Call-Sign
The traditional Alpha Sigma Delta Radio Fraternity call sign W5TC,
which dates back to the 1930's and thus has a lot of history behind
it, expired while the club was inactive in 1994 and was picked up
by a local ham for his own use. Obtaining a new call sign, possibly
a vanity one, was discussed. It was decided that the only value of
a club sign is sentimental and historical, so we should wait to see
if we can get the old one back.
- ARRL affiliation
- It is very easy for a school club to become affiliated. Now that we
have a solid membership base, the forms will be sent in.
- The club will purchase a subscription to QST.
- It remains to be decided whether we will place the QST's in the OU Library,
or in our own shack. In Bizzell, they will have wider access. In
our own, club members would have priority.
- T-Shirt design
Insufficient interest was expressed in T-Shirts. Maybe next year.
- Tulsa Ham Fest in March
No one in attendance was planning to go. Any other members planning to
attend to should refer to the Events and Activities
page for more information.
- Dallas Ham Fest
Lots of people are planning to go. Refer to the
Events and Activities page for more information.
- Field Day
After some debate, it was unanimously decided that Field Day should be
held on Mt. Scott. Several experienced area hams will be there to help
set up. Ham equipment is plentiful. We are looking into obtaining
a generator. Bring your own food and a BBQ if you have one. See the
Events and Activities page for updates.
- Election of
Vice-President
Jared P Bostic, KB5PSP was elected.
- General Business
- Dennis McCarthy from the National Weather Service spoke about the need
for a severe weather spotter net in the Cleveland County area.
The net would report and verify severe weather events. The net
controller would intermediate with the NWS meta-net. It was decided
that this is an excellent community service project for our club.
- It was decided that we should look into activities which recruit
teenagers into amateur radio to help promote the hobby and ensure
continuity for the club. The ARRL has funding available for such
projects.
- Mark Kleine N5HZR mentioned that some of the upcoming space shuttle
missions will be running FM voice contacts on 2 meters.
- The idea of a Family Membership class was brought up again. An amendment
to the bylaws creating such a class is being written up and
will be proposed at the next meeting.
See the Events and Activities page
for updates.
