Field Day 1997

The OUARC, along with hams all across the country, hauled our gear into the open to simulate emergency operations and give everyone a chance to try out different modes and contact other hams around the world. Here's the background.

This year we set up in an actual field, along the eastern shore of the Duck Pond. We had plenty of room to spread out and set up some nice big antennas. We ran off of emergency power the entire time, using a generator to charge batteries for the radios and a UPS to run some ancient x86 boxes as logging stations. We also discovered that $25 pavillions do not appreciate wind.

Overall we did very well, with 451 QSOs spanning 44 states. The logs will be uploaded as soon as they are available.

Thanks to everyone who helped setup or just stopped by for moral support!
